Guide to Working with 585 Platinum (Karat Platinum)
Karat Platinum (PT 585) was alloyed specifically for use in jewelry.
Due to the fact that pure platinum is soft and does not have mechanical strength for most jewelry applications, this a achieved by alloying platinum with other metals.
Karat Platinum is a blend of 58.5% Platinum and 41.5% Cobalt (Co and Copper (Cu).
This allows Karat Platinum to become a universal alloy for jewelry.
